Baltimore based artist MacKenzie Peck was in need of a site to showcase her evolving body of work, which is rich with theory, concept and material. MacKenzie requested that the site serve as a vehicle within which her work could live. The aesthetics and functionality of the site needed to fade into the background, leaving only her work to be seen. It is a balance that is often encountered in artist’s sites.
We designed a site that was pragmatic and neutral, allowing her work to shine. The color palette utilizes shades of gray to reduce interference with her images and we chose a typeface that was unassuming yet still intellectually refined: Franklin Gothic Condensed.
An important feature that MacKenzie requested was a section to house her research and writings; a way for her to evolve her process both intimately and publicly. We built a weblog running on Wordpress that allows her to both write about her work and engage with the public.
