The Open End

The Southeast United States is a veritable mecca for rock climbers. Miles of solid blonde and orange sandstone cliffs and boulders can be found in almost any direction. For years the region has been attracted rockstars from around the globe and has been consistently listed as one of the top 10 rock climbing destinations worldwide.

Climbing is still a small sport and receives little recognition in mainstream media. However, regardless of size the community and social aspects of the sport make it one of a kind. The Chattanooga climbing community is growing exponentially each year, but they lacked a portal where they could connect and stay up to date, browse local news, get event info, read training articles from local talent, etc.

Griptick was designed with these problems in mind.

We developed a site whose design will set a new precedent for online climbing communities. The site features a multimedia section for hosting both videos and image galleries, a shop for locally design merchandise, gear and destination reviews, a classifieds section, interviews, training articles and a news section pulling in news from around the globe.

The site’s aesthetic is subdued yet strong, relying on a strict grid and purposeful use of typography to guide the user from section to section.
